Frequently Asked Questions
Bring any physical examination forms required by the school, athletic organization, or college. It is also helpful to bring a current medication list, relevant medical history, immunization records if requested, and information about previous injuries or health conditions. If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, make sure they bring them. Having the required paperwork available at the appointment can help us complete everything efficiently.
Not exactly. A sports physical, also called a pre-participation physical examination, focuses specifically on whether an athlete can safely participate in sports. It typically includes a review of medical and family history and an examination of areas such as cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health. A routine wellness exam is generally broader and may include preventive screenings and discussions that aren’t part of a sports clearance. A sports physical should not necessarily replace regular preventive healthcare.
Finding a potential concern does not automatically mean you or your child cannot participate in sports. Depending on what we identify, we may recommend additional evaluation, documentation, testing, or clearance from another healthcare provider before participation. The goal is to identify issues that could affect safety and make sure you have the information needed to address them appropriately.
Requirements vary by school, state, athletic organization, and level of competition. Many programs require an updated physical before participation in a new season or school year. Because individual requirements can differ, check with your school or athletic organization before your appointment and bring its current physical form with you.
Commercial drivers should bring a valid photo ID and information about their medical history, medications, and treating healthcare providers. If you have certain medical conditions or use medical devices, you may need additional records. Bringing the appropriate documentation can help prevent unnecessary delays in determining whether you meet federal medical requirements.
A DOT physical evaluates whether you meet the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s medical standards for safely operating a commercial motor vehicle. Certain vision, hearing, cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, or other medical concerns may require additional evaluation or documentation. Taking medication or having a chronic condition does not automatically disqualify you. Eligibility depends on the condition, its management, and applicable FMCSA requirements.
A DOT medical certificate may be valid for up to 24 months. However, a medical examiner may issue a certificate for a shorter period when a health condition requires more frequent monitoring. Your provider will explain the certification period that applies to you based on your examination and current federal requirements.
In many cases, yes. Treasure Valley Aesthetics & Wellness aims to make physical exams straightforward and convenient, including completing the appropriate forms when requirements are met. Bring all necessary paperwork to your appointment so our team can review it during your visit.
